Delay Forced Entry Attempts

Kontek Security Window Film is designed to help delay forced entry without requiring full window replacement.

Our multi-ply film bonds to the interior surface of existing glass, helping hold fractured glazing together after impact. Instead of the pane falling out immediately, the filmed glass remains engaged, increasing the effort required to clear an opening.

For commercial facilities, that added resistance can:

  • Slow smash-and-grab attempts at storefronts
  • Increase the number of strikes required to breach the glass
  • Create additional time for alarm activation and response
  • Reduce immediate vulnerability at ground-level entry point

Kontek configures each installation based on your facility’s risk profile, ensuring the film thickness and attachment method align with your security objectives.

Proven Performance

Security window film is evaluated under recognized impact, intrusion, and blast standards. Performance depends on film thickness and whether approved attachment systems are used.

Impact Resistance

  • Evaluated under ASTM large missile impact criteria
  • Certified intrusion-resistant options available (UL 972)
  • Helps retain shattered glass after repeated impact
These evaluations measure how filmed glass performs when struck. The glass may crack, but the film helps keep it bonded together, increasing the effort required to create an opening.

Blast Mitigation Options

  • Configurations available that meet GSA blast performance levels
  • Performance enhanced when paired with approved anchoring systems
  • Designed to help reduce hazardous glass fallout
Blast performance depends on glass type, frame condition, and attachment method. Film alone and film installed with anchoring systems perform differently.

Applications for Kontek Security Window Film

Kontek's film is used across commercial and public-facing facilities where glass presents a vulnerability. Each installation is configured based on the building type, threat concerns, and existing glazing condition.

  • Retail Storefronts: Increase resistance at ground-level glazing, slowing entry attempts and helping reduce immediate loss exposure
  • Office Buildings: Reinforce vulnerable lobby glazing, entry doors, and perimeter windows while maintaining existing aesthetics
  • Schools and Public Buildings: Provide an added layer of safety in educational and public facilities, ensuring the well-being of occupants
  • Government and High-Risk Areas: Increase the resilience of windows in administrative offices, municipal buildings, and public-facing government facilities

Anchoring System for Increased Forced Entry Resistance

Security window film strengthens the glass surface. The Madico GullWing® Anchoring System strengthens the entire opening.

In many installations, film is applied to the glass but left unsecured at the frame. Under repeated impact, fractured glass can still separate from the window perimeter. The GullWing® system addresses that weakness by reinforcing the edge of the filmed glass and helping keep the panel engaged within the frame.

What This Means for Your Facility

  • Increased resistance before an opening can be cleared
  • Better glass retention under repeated impact
  • Enhanced performance in higher-risk environments
  • Stronger integration with intrusion and blast mitigation objectives

Frequently Asked Questions

Is security window film bulletproof?

No. Security window film is not ballistic-rated and is not designed to stop bullets. If firearm threats are a concern, ballistic glass or rated glazing systems may be required.

What’s the difference between security film and ballistic glass?

Security window film is applied to existing glass to help hold shattered glazing together and delay forced entry. It is not designed to stop bullets.

Ballistic glass is a multi-layer glazing system engineered and tested to stop specific firearm threats and replaces the existing glass.

Do I need to replace my windows first?

In most cases, no. Security window film is applied to existing glazing. Kontek evaluates the condition of the glass and frame to determine compatibility and whether anchoring is recommended.

How long does security window film last?
Service life depends on installation quality, sun exposure, and environmental conditions. Commercial-grade film is designed for long-term performance when properly installed.
Where is security window film most commonly used?

Security window film is commonly installed in retail storefronts, schools, government facilities, office buildings, and other environments where exposed glass presents a vulnerability.
