Kontek Industries Invited to the Prestigious Armed Forces Journal's Annual Shootout at Blackwater 2005
Will Highlight Force Protection Solutions designed to protect U.S. Military Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan
New Madrid, Mo., May 24, 2005 — Kontek Industries announced today that the Armed Forces Journal has invited the company to test two of its most technically advanced products, its 120-millimeter mortar proof housing panels and .50 caliber Armor-Proof Guard House, at the Journal's annual Shoot Out at Blackwater on May 25th and 26th. Shoot Out at Blackwater is an invitation-only product-testing event designed to test the most advanced weapons, ammunition, glass, and armor. The best of the best throughout the armed forces and the special operations world, will gather at the 5,600-acre Blackwater Training Center, in North Carolina, to test the latest products from the military/defense industry.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase our state-of-the-art, field-tested, and certified, force protection products in front of the military's key decision-makers," said Don Utz, president of Kontek. Our ongoing research and testing programs are designed to bring to market tested and certified products that provide the maximum protection against a variety of threats to U.S. Armed Forces throughout the world," continued Utz.
In response to previously identified threats such as: rocket-propelled grenades, vehicle-based improvised explosive devices, and mortar artillery, Kontek refocused its force protection R&D efforts. Earlier this year, the guard house and protective panels passed tests — successfully withstanding artillery from .50 caliber armor-piercing ammunition, 81-, 120-millimeter mortar explosions. The research, conducted by the University of Missouri-Rolla's (UMR) Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center, was carried out and field-tested at UMR and Air Force Research Labs in Florida as part of the $2.4 million Department of Defense research grant awarded to Kontek and UMR. This was included in the FY 2005 defense bill by Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson, and Missouri Senators Jim Talent and Christopher "Kit" Bond.
